If you’re looking for a good WoW enchanting guide, you’ve come to the right place. The enchanting profession in the World of Warcraft is one that can earn you a great amount of gold, plus it has many advantages. It is, however, a primary profession. You can only learn two primary professions on each of your characters, so choosing enchanting takes one of these.
Enchanting allows you to case powerful enchantments on your equipment and the equipment of others. These enchantments can increase your stats, give you resistance to types of magic, up your damage, make you move more quickly, or give you more armor. Enchanters can also create items like enchanted leather and vellum and disenchant items of a green level or higher.
Racial Bonus
If you play as a Blood Elf, you will start the game with the passive ability Arcane Affinity. This gives you +10 to enchanting, giving you a bit of an edge over other enchanters.
Getting Started
When you make it to your race’s capital city, you’ll be able to find an enchanting trainer. They will teach you the apprentice level of training. You’ll also learn some very basic enchants. These include things like Enchant Bracer – Minor Deflection and Enchant Chest – Minor Health. To increase your skill in enchanting, you’ll need to cast enchants. In your enchantment menu, you’ll see different colored spells. Red enchantments are ones you can’t cast at all because they’re too high level. Orange enchantments will always give you a skill point when cast, while yellow ones will most likely give you a skill point. Green enchantments will most likely not increase your skill, while grey enchantments will never provide you with a skill point.
Most likely, you’ll be casting these on your own gear because few people will buy them. You can offer to give away enchantments for free to low level players, which can also be a good way to increase your enchanting skill. Note that you can cast the same enchantment over and over on the same item—you can cast Enchant Bracer – Minor Deflection over and over on the same pair of bracers to get skill ups until it goes grey.
You’ll also learn how to make some items. One of these, the Runed Copper Rod, must be made right away because it’s needed to cast many enchantments. To make it, you’ll need to get a copper rod. You can buy one of these off the auction house or have a blacksmith make one for you. You can also make a Lesser Magic Wand, a good ranged weapon for mages, priests, and warlocks.
Enchanting Materials
Each enchantment requires players to have the necessary materials. These include different types of dusts, essences, and shards. Low level materials are usually pretty cheap, but higher level items like Abyss Crystals or Dream Shards can be quite expensive. At certain points, you’ll also need to upgrade your Runed Copper Rod to a Runed Silver Rod, then a Runed Golden Rod, and so on.
Increasing Your Skill Level – WoW Enchanting Guide
When you have reached 75 skill points, your apprentice enchanting will be maxed out and you won’t be able to gain any more skill points, not even from orange enchantments. At this point, you’ll need to return to an enchanting trainer and train to be a journeyman enchanter. As a journeyman, you can increase your enchanting to 150. Following that, you’ll need to train as an expert (150 – 225), artisan (225 – 300), master (300 – 375) and grand master (350 – 450). Becoming a master enchanter requires players to have the Burning Crusade expansion installed, while grand master requires Wrath of the Lich King. Some enchantments are not available until you reach certain levels.
Disenchanting
Another way of increasing your enchanting skill is by disenchanting green, blue, or purple weapons and armor. These items may be destroyed to create some of the dusts, essences, or shards that are needed to cast enchantments. At low levels, disenchanting can also provide you with an enchanting skill up. However, you will find that at low levels, you can only disenchant low level items. To disenchant epic items that will give you things like Abyss Crystals, you’ll need to max out your enchanting skill.
One way of making a good amount of money is to sell these enchanting materials on the auction house. Many players will send low level green items to their enchanting character for disenchantment. Even the low level Strange Dust, the lowest level of dust, generally sells better than a level 5 green weapon. Selling Abyss Crystals and other high level materials can net players hundreds of gold each.
Making Money with Enchanting
In addition to selling enchanting materials on the auction house, there are other ways of making gold using enchanting. In fact, enchanting can be one of the most profitable professions in the game.
Selling your enchants – you can spend some time in major cities announcing your enchanting services in the trade or general chat. This is a good way of finding customers, although you really need to be a high level enchanter to really make money this way. You may also see other players looking for enchanters to do specific enchants. You can reply to them if you know that particular enchantment. It is considered polite for players to tip you for your services, especially if you have to provide some of the materials.
Making craftable items – The four different types of magic wands (lesser and greater magic wand and lesser and greater mystic wand) are very useful for casters, and they are often just as powerful as wands from quests. You can also sell the oils you can make, although they do not sell as well. Vellum, a new item created via inscription since Wrath of the Lich King, can be used by enchanters to “store” enchantments in scrolls. These scrolls can be traded or sold to others, then used as an item to enchant equipment.
Sell enchanted reagents – several of the other professions need enchanted leather or enchanted thorium bars to make certain items. Selling these can be another nice source of income.
Notes on Enchanting
There are a few things to make note of:
- You can only disenchant your own soulbound items. You can disenchant any non-soulbound item.
- Some enchantments will not stack with things like armor kits, so you may have to choose which item enhancement you want.
- Some items cannot be enchanted. For example, there are currently no enchants for belts, wands, or headpieces, although you can purchase some headpiece enchantments from specific factions.
I hope this WoW enchanting guide will help you on your way to success in World of Warcraft. Good luck.
